Ranau Lake is the biggest and the most beautiful lake in South Sumatera. Ranau Lake is in the border of West Lampung District, Lampung Province and South Ogan Komering Ulu, South Sumatera Province. It is 342 kilometers from Palembang city, 130 kilometers from Baturaja city, and 50 kilometers from Muara Dua city, South Ogan Komering Ulu. It needs 7 hours from Palembang by car. It also can be reached from Bandar Lampung route, by crossing Bukit Kemuning and Liwa.

Geographically, Ranau Lake is in 4°51’45” longitude south and 103°55’50” east longitude. It is bordered by valley and range of hill with 8×16 kilometers wide by Semuning Mounth as a background. It has cool weather at night and the temperature is around 20° – 26° Celcius at noon.

Ranau Lake is created by earthquake and vulcanic eruption from the volcano that created large basin. The rest of the volcano mountain becomes Seminang Mount in the border of its beautiful lake. There is a hot springs in the other side of Semuning Mount. There is Subik waterfal also. Then there is Marisa Island in the center of Ranau Lake.

Based on the tale of Banding Agung tradition, the name of “Ranau” was adopted from the name of some kind of trees named “Hara” and “Reranau”. Once upon a time, a comunity leader asked the people to cut the trees both. It will be used for horticulturalists. But, there was no one who can cut the trees both. Finally, the the comunity leader became the only one who can cut the trees both. Suddenly a hot springs appeared in the former place where the trees growing and becames a Lake Ranau like we can see now.

Ranau Lake offers captivating fascination. The panorama of roughly beautiful lake with the great mountain as the bacground captivates whoever find it. The cool weather also brings into peace for throwing away the exhaustion, especially for the people who get bored beyond believe with the city crowded. It’s not just about the panorama, you can also enjoy the Lake by boating around and also enjoying a hot springs by swimming. If you are lucky, you can find a Rowboat Festival. It’s very lovely festival.
About hotel and restaurant, don’t worry about it. There is a resort near Ranau Lake. It is Semuning Lumbok Resort. This resort offers a hotel, restaurant, kids games facility, outbound facility, and paragliding. If you want to enjoy the traditional taste, you can find such hotels like Wisma Varita Pusri or Puri Tjek Na.

How to reach Ranau Lake is not a big deal. If you start your adventure fron Java Island, you can use aeroplane to reach Raden Intan II airport. Then rent a car from the airport to reach the location. Or you can go there by bus. Go to Rajabasa bus station then change into a small car to reach the location. Or the most simple way is calling the travel agent from the airport for guiding.
